About Hannah Matthysen, RMT

What is your approach to practice?

I take an evidence-based approach to practice backed by modern science & research. I am passionate about setting an example for my patients to help them live a balanced and healthy life. Patient education and empowerment are fundamental in my practice.

During my history and assessment, I gather the necessary information to develop a treatment plan customized to each patient and their goals. I focus on creating a calming environment so the patient can relax and I can work in collaboration with the nervous and musculoskeletal systems. My techniques may include general Swedish massage, deep tissue treatment, trigger point work, fascial manipulation, joint mobilizations and active or passive stretching and hydrotherapy. After the treatment is completed, I focus on providing simple and attainable home care exercises that patients can perform on their own accord to help facilitate their recovery and wellness.

What are some of your primary interests or preferred areas of focus?

I pride myself on being a versatile and adaptable practitioner to help my patients. I am able to confidently treat a variety of conditions. However, I also focus on staying humble; I am always a student of the human body that is constantly learning as science evolves.

Areas I enjoy working with are orthopaedic conditions and sports injury/ rehab. I am passionate about helping the equestrian community in multiple disciplines and skillsets. I also enjoy working with pre & post pregnancy patients and overuse injuries such as tendonitis.

What do you love outside the clinic?

I love the mountains and the ocean. I enjoy them in the company of my husband, Dalen. I am an outdoorsy soul, so you can find me somewhere in nature walking my dog- rain or shine! In the winter I’ll be downhill or cross country skiing on the local mountains, and my summers are often spent on the water enjoying our beautiful coastline. I ride horses all year round when time permits!

What are you passionate about?

I am passionate about both physical and mental exercise as well as diet nutrition. I enjoy listening to evidence based podcasts on my free time to continuously learn about optimal health.

Why do you love working with Lagom Sport and Spine?

Lagom is truly like a child my husband and I raise together. We started Lagom when we were dating! It’s been an exciting journey and a learning curve. I love having my husband as a business partner. We are truly a team through and through in every aspect of our lives. We want to make sure the business embodies so much of what we are passionate about as practitioners, and we firmly believe in having a positive impact on people’s lives in our community.
